Two factory-supported Ford GT race cars had the honor of completing the 6 Hours of Silverstone over the weekend, marking Ford’s first concerted effort in European endurance racing in several decades.
There’s still plenty of work to be done if the automaker has any hope of delivering a Ford GT to the podium at this year’s 24 Hours of Le Mans, however. Ford GT No. 67, driven by Marino Franchitti, Andy Priaulx, and Harry Tincknell, placed fourth in the LM GTE Pro class, with a 2-lap gap between it and the first-place Ferrari 488 GTE. Its sister car – Ford GT No. 66 – was driven to a fifth place finish by Billy Johnson, Stefan Mücke, and Olivier Pla.
Nonetheless, Ford is excited to take its new, EcoBoost-powered GT racing in the World Endurance Championship this year. At the Ford GT’s WEC debut at Silverstone, the automaker captured 360° video of a full lap around the track in one of its cars.
