Starting in July, the refreshed, 2017 Ford Escape crossover will star in “The Runner” – a competitive series coming to Verizon’s new Go90 mobile video service, with Ben Affleck and Matt Damon serving as Executive Producers.
“The Runner” is a competition-based reality series which will put one person in the new Ford Escape as they attempt to cross the United States in 30 days. The object is to do this without being spotted by teams of “Chasers,” also driving Escapes, who must track and try to stop the “Runner” from reaching the target destination. Should the “Runner” succeed in reaching the endpoint, he or she will be awarded a large cash prize.
“The Runner” is likely to become Go90’s most prominent program yet, according to Automotive News. Verizon debuted the Go90 service last October. Ford Escape Brand Manager Kevin Schad said of the product tie-in: “Escape embodies an adventurous, unstoppable spirit that fits with the mindset of ‘The Runner,’ so it was a natural fit.”
Starting with its debut on July 1st, “The Runner” will highlight some of the revamped Ford Escape’s tech-savvy featureset in ways that aren’t obvious, in-your-face marketing, says Mr. Schad. He hopes that the crossover’s appearance on the new Go90 series could help Ford reach a younger demographic, as many youthful consumers choose not to have a paid TV subscription these days.
“The Runner” will also be hosted on AOL.com, alongside branded content on the likes of YouTube, Snapchat, Facebook and Twitter, reports Automotive News.
