Last weekend’s World Endurance Championship race, the 6 Hours of Nürburgring, didn’t go quite as well as hoped for the Ford GT program. After winning the 24 Hours of Le Mans in the GTE-Pro class and claiming three straight victories in a row in the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship, the Ford GT came upon its first hard times in a long while in Nürburg, Germany.
The GT’s IMSA effort at Lime Rock Park over the weekend didn’t fare much better, as a matter of fact.
At the 6 Hours of Nürburgring, the Ford GT team had to contend with charging Ferraris, contact with Astons, a fuel fire in the pits, and plenty more. The end result was a fourth place and a seventh place finish for the No. 66 and 67 Ford GT race cars, marking the program’s first failure to produce a podium finish in competitive road racing since its winning-streak started at Laguna Seca on May 1st (IMSA).
