Ford Motor Company Recalls 2016 Ford E-Series Cutaway And Chassis Cabs Over Trailer Brake Controller Issue

Ford Motor Company is recalling certain 2016 model year Ford E-Series cutaway and chassis cab vehicles in North America for a potential issue with the trailer brake controller.

The defect: in affected vehicles, the trailer brakes do not engage when the driver presses the brake pedal. While towing a trailer, drivers can manually apply the trailer brakes.

The hazards: the condition could result in extended braking distance.

Ford is not aware of any accidents or injuries related to this issue.

Affected vehicles: 2016 Ford E-Series cutaway and chassis cab vehicles built at Ohio Assembly Plant between November 3rd, 2014 through September 1st, 2015.

Number of affected vehicles: a total of 72 units in North America, of which:

  • 65 are in the United States and federalized territories
  • 7 are in Canada

The fix: dealers will update the powertrain control module software at no cost to the customer.
