Autocross: it’s the drug of choice for so many of us gearheads, as it represents an affordable, accessible means of enjoying motorsport, without the hassle of having to find a team, source sponsors, and subject our cars to intensive performance modifications.
Due to the very nature of autocross, one can use just about any plain jane daily driver to carve up a course – even a base model Ford Fiesta.
This video from The Smoking Tire puts the viewer in the driver’s seat of such an ordinary 2014 Ford Fiesta, as one of the site’s staff takes us around the autocross track at the Florida International Rally & Motorsport (FIRM) park. As a matter of fact, the facility uses the base model Ford Fiesta extensively as a training tool for newbie drivers; though it might be underpowered, the lithe little hatchback has a surprisingly competent chassis and plenty of feedback. That’s a perfect combination to show any unseasoned driver the ropes before they step up to something more potent.
Be sure to watch the 2014 Ford Fiesta base make its way around the FIRM autocross track above.
