Going by a photograph which first surfaced on FordForums last week, Australia’s Motoring website has confirmed that new “Sprint” editions of the Ford Falcon XR6 and XR8 are inbound to the Land Down Under. These “Sprint” edition Ford Falcon performance models will serve as a swan song of sorts before Ford Australia ceases domestic production in October next year.
The photo is an all but certain confirmation of rumors dating back to November, 2014, when Motoring first reported that the Ford Falcon XR6, XR6 Turbo, and XR8 would be granted a final, limited edition to commemorate the Australian performance sedan. Ford Australia declined to comment, but the automaker also registered trademarks for the names “XR6 Sprint”, “XR6 Turbo Sprint”, and “XR8 Sprint.”
The FordForums photo depicts a plastic-sheathed leather and Alcantara bucket seat with the word “Sprint” embroidered onto the back. It was featured alongside images of partly-built Ford Falcon XR8s inside an Australian Ford facility.
Pricing and performance figures are still unknown; the regular Ford Falcon XR6 Turbo is priced at $43,490 Australian, and the XR8 at $53,490.
