Ford Performance and Chip Ganassi Racing recently announced its driver lineup for the 2016 IMSA season. Among the drivers that will be driving the new Ford GT racecar in 2016 is Briton Richard Westbrook, who joins the team after a four-year stint with General Motors’ factory team Corvette Racing.
Westbrook is an accomplished sportscar racer, having raced at the 24 Hours of Le Mans numerous times in addition to serving as both a GM and Porsche factory driver. He also enjoyed success in IMSA’s prototype class in 2014 and 2015 with Spirit Of Daytona Racing and raced with Matech and Nissan in the GT1 championship.
Initially, Westbrook said he wasn’t overly confident in Ford’s ability to get the GT program up to snuff before the 2016 season, but after some seat time he said the car was “unbelievable,” which changes his views a little. See what else he has to say about the program and the new Ford GT in the video above before the team takes to the track at the 24 Hours of Daytona in January.
