For a third year, the UAW-Ford group will be feeding the less-fortunate, around the city of Detroit and throughout a total 18 states where Ford has facilities, with its “Boxes of Love” program. This year, UAW-Ford’s efforts will see to the distribution of some 25,000 specially-prepared holiday meals.
According to the Detroit Free Press, each of UAW-Ford’s “Boxes of Love” contains a full turkey with everything required to make stuffing, vegetables, macaroni and cheese, corn bread, cranberry sauce, and cake. The meals were put together by 700 UAW-Ford group volunteers nationwide, with Detroit’s allotment being put together assembly line-style at the Brownstone Plant last Saturday. UAW-Ford sponsored the total $500,000 worth of food being donated.
Said Ford VP of Labor Affairs Bill Dirksen: “Planning a major community giving initiative like this takes a lot of planning and effort from people willing to dedicate their time and energy – and the results are always rewarding. We want to do our part to make sure people have the opportunity to enjoy a traditional holiday meal with their families.”
