Speaking to the UK’s Auto Express at the 2016 Detroit North American International Auto Show (NAIAS), Ford Executive VP of Marketing, Sales and Service Steve Odell said that Ford could expand the RS performance brand in the future, with one or more models possibly joining the 2016 Ford Focus RS arriving this spring.
Naturally, this has us excited about the pervasive possibility of a high-performance Ford Fiesta RS hot-hatch.
“The RS brand is really valuable,” Mr. Odell told Auto Express. “People race it. People collect it. I believe there is room to expand.”
Our own hopes for a rumored Ford Fiesta RS were all but dashed when an inside source told us that the RS-looking prototype spotted testing in Germany last March was nothing more than a test mule for the base Fiesta model. However, Mr. Odell hinted that we might see more RS-badged models in the long-term future, and we’re struggling to think of a better candidate than the rumored Ford Fiesta RS.
In the short term, Auto Express is expecting to see the RS badge employed to market parts in the Ford Performance catalog.
