Ford Motor Company Honors The Accomplishments Of Black Men

Coinciding with Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Ford Motor Company yesterday announced a nationwide initiative around Men of Courage – a program launched as a pilot last year which seeks to strengthen black communities and effect social change by celebrating the accomplishments of black men in the US.

The Ford Motor Co. initiative was launched yesterday at a Men of Courage gathering in Maryland, and includes a national contest looking at inspirational stories, from which one winner will be selected to honor at the Ford Freedom Awards on May 17th in Detroit, Michigan. Ford Motor’s philanthropic arm, Ford Fund, is also working on an online curriculum that profiles 20 prominent black men who might serve as role models to today’s black youth.

Rap recording artist and Detroit native Big Sean is a member of Men of Courage. “After being a part of the Men of Courage pilot program and witnessing the benefits of uplifting our community, I am proud to lend my voice and take this effort to the national level,” he said. Former Detroit Mayor and NBA Hall of Fame inductee Dave Bing is also a notable member.

Aaron Brzozowski is a writer and motoring enthusiast from Detroit with an affinity for '80s German steel. He is not active on the Twitter these days, but you may send him a courier pigeon.
