Ford Performance Recaps The 2016 Roar Before The 24: Video

Ford celebrated the first track outing of its GT racecar this weekend, with Chip Ganassi Racing bringing the all-new GTLM-spec racer out to the annual 3-day Roar Before the 24 practice session. As far as first outings for a racecar go the sessions were rather successful, as Ford and the CGR managed to be fastest in more than one of the practice runs against fierce competition from BMW Team RLL and Corvette Racing.

In the final practice session Sunday the No. 67 Ford GT was the second-fastest car on track with a time of 1:45.452, behind the No. 3 Corvette C7.R, which posted a fastest lap of 1:45.227. Both the No. 67 and No. 66 Fords were within one or two tenths of the leaders in nearly all sessions throughout the weekend, a standout achievement for a new-to-the-series manufacturer.

The Ford EcoBoost Daytona Protoypes were also on track all weekend, but both had a much less successful outing than the GT. The No. 01 and No. 2 DPs fell victim to on-track incidents and were unable to turn in a competitive lap time, potentially spelling out trouble for the team as the Rolex 24 at Daytona nears.

Ford has uploaded a short recap video to its YouTube channel recapping its Roar Before the 24 outing. Check it out above, and be sure to check back to Ford Authority for coverage of the 24 hours of Daytona when it goes green later this month.
