Ford Recalls 2016 E-Series Cutaway And Chassis Cab Over Issue With Trailer Brake Controller

Ford Motor Company is issuing a recall for certain 2016 Ford E-Series cutaway and chassis cab vehicles in North America over an issue with the trailer brake controller.

The defect: under certain conditions, a driver may lose trailer braking function at a stop.

The hazards: losing trailer braking could result in extended braking distance, increasing the risk of a crash. Vehicle braking is not affected.

Injuries or deaths: Ford is not aware of any accidents or injuries related to this issue.

Affected vehicles: certain model year 2016 E-Series cutaway and chassis cab vehicles.

Number of affected vehicles: 83 vehicles in North America, of which:

  • 75 are in the United States and federalized territories
  • 8 are in Canada

The fix: Ford will notify owners, and dealers will update the powertrain control module software at no cost to the customer.

Owners should: owners who wish to know if their vehicle is included in these recalls can visit http://owner.ford.com and click on Safety Recalls at the bottom of the page. There, customers can enter their Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) to see any open safety, compliance or emissions recalls, as well as customer satisfaction programs.
