Canadian firm Westport Innovations, which has built a business out of performing vehicle conversions for low-emissions fuels like compressed natural gas (CNG) and propane, has just secured EPA certification for its CNG-powered 2016 Ford F-150 half-ton pickup. Westport will begin offering the truck to fleets this summer, according to website TruckingInfo.
Westport’s CNG-fuelled 2016 Ford F-150 is aided by the factory Gaseous-Prep Package – a $315 option offered on all 5.0-liter V8-equipped 2016 Ford F-150 trucks. Westport plans to offer both a CNG-only truck, and a “bi-fuel” version which can switch between either compressed natural gas or pump gasoline.
Westport Innovations is still awaiting certification from the California Air Resources Board (CARB) for its CNG-fuelled 2016 Ford F-150 conversion, and certification from both the EPA and the CARB for its propane conversion.
Said Westport Dallas VP and Managing Director Paul Shaffer: “We recognize that different fleets require different types of alternative fuels and, whether it is natural gas or propane that a company desires, we are dedicated to meet this preference with a certified vehicle.”
