Police in the state of New South Wales, Australia have just taken delivery of a Ford Mustang GT pursuit vehicle: one of a handful of cars being considered to replace the homegrown Ford Falcon and Holden Commodore after production has ceased.
According to News Corp Australia, a photo of the Ford Mustang pursuit car surfaced on Facebook recently, wearing New South Wales police car livery, although the lights and sirens don’t seem to have been fitted yet. Our source reports that while a two-door coupe like the Ford Mustang might not replace all highway patrol vehicles in the Australian state, it could easily assume traffic enforcement duties, as general purpose police vehicles can be called in to transport persons after an arrest.
Other contenders to join the New South Wales highway patrol include the Chrysler 300C SRT8 and Subaru WRX, although News Corp notes that the latter has yet to pass the necessary braking tests.
