Ford Motor Company is issuing a recall for certain 2016 Ford F-150 over an issue with the front passenger airbag detector, which may incorrectly classify an adult as a child.
The defect: if the multi-contour front passenger seat massage function is turned on and an adult is in that seat, the occupant classification system may incorrectly classify the adult as a child.
The hazards: the issue would suppress the front passenger airbag and increasing the risk of injury in a crash.
Injuries or deaths: none reported.
Affected vehicles: 2016 Ford F-150 with multi-contour seats. The vehicles were produced between April 27, 2015 and November 22, 2015.
Number of affected vehicles: 3,683 in North America, including:
- 2,894 in the United States
- 286 in Canada
- 503 in Mexico
The fix: dealers will update the occupant classification system module software at no cost to the customer.
