Already a documented problem, Australia’s unit shortage of the 2016 RHD Ford Mustang has grown worse, with Australia’s CarAdvice reporting that over 6,000 orders are now on the books.
That pushes the wait time well into 2017.
Deliveries of the Ford Mustang in Australia just began earlier in the year, and price-gouging in the country is already rampant. Ford Australia Director of Communications and Public Affairs Wes Sherwood told CarAdvice Ford is amazed with the uptake. “We now have 6,000 orders and the waiting list is out to 2017. We are still fighting to get more cars this year,” he said.
Australia’s enthusiastic reception of the Ford Mustang isn’t unlike the fervency shown for the new Falcon Sprint models, which are nearly sold out well in advance of their scheduled May arrival.
Ford Australia CEO previously compared the popularity of the RHD Ford Mustang to that of a rock supergroup, saying: “We are simply overwhelmed and humbled by the reception to Mustang thus far, which is probably our closest equivalent to the Beatles first trip to Australia.”
