Ford Recalls 2015-2016 Transit Over Issue With Rear Seat Belt Buckles

Ford Motor Company is issuing a recall for certain 2015-2016 model year Ford Transit vans over an issue with the rear seat belt buckles that prevent the buckle from latching or remaining latched.

The defect: the rear seat belt buckles may be damaged if a heavy object is placed on, or impacts, the top of the buckle. The damage may prevent the buckle from latching or from remaining latched.

The hazards: an unlatched seat belt increases the risk of injury to the occupant in the event of a crash.

Affected vehicles: 2015-2016 Transit vans manufactured February 13th, 2014 to January 13th, 2016 and equipped with rear passenger seats.

Number of affected vehicles: 48,990 units (Untied States figure).

The fix: Ford will notify owners, and dealers will modify or replace the seat belt buckles, depending on their location in the vehicle, free of charge. Owners will be notified of the recall March 14th, 2016.

Remedy parts are unavailable at the time the recall was announced.
