The new, 2017 Ford Escape takes winter-resistant equipment to a whole new level, offering for the first time an available windshield wiper de-icer to help keep the driver’s view forward nice and clear.
Automobile: 1. Winter: 0.
The 2017 Ford Escape is the first Ford crossover or SUV to offer a windshield wiper de-icer in the United States. Its part of a Cold Weather Package which comes standard on Titanium-level models, or as an option on the SE, which includes all-weather floor mats, heated side mirrors, heated seats, and a “supplemental powertrain conditioning heater.”
To clear the windshield wiper blades, the Cold Weather Package-equipped 2017 Ford Escape has a heating element at the base of the glass – where the wipers rest while inactive. At the press of a button, that heating element is activated, and theoretically capable of clearing light snow and ice from the blades in less than 10 minutes at a bone-chilling -18°F.
Even better: on models equipped with the new SYNC Connect system, owners can activate the system remotely with the mobile FordPass app before they even head out to the vehicle.
“The windshield wiper de-icer is a great solution to one of the more nagging problems of winter,” says Ford Fixed-Glass Engineer Jennifer Gauthier. “Escape drivers in the U.S. are going to wonder how they ever got along without it.”
