Have a soft spot for modern cars with retro bodywork tacked on? If so, you might want to check out what’s up for grabs on eBay out of Rio Rancho, New Mexico: this unique 1996 Ford Thunderbird LX hot rod with ca. 1950s looks.
Divisive though its appearance may be, this Ford Thunderbird hot rod gets an “A” for effort; those are genuine body panels from a 1949 “Shoebox” Ford coupe installed at the front and rear of the car. It retains the Thunderbird’s stock powertrain – a 4.6-liter Modular V8 with a 4-speed automatic transmission – but it’s guaranteed to turn a few more heads than any ordinary tenth-generation Ford Thunderbird ever could. The interior is stock as well, finished in a voluptuous shade of red with plenty of leather.
According to the seller, the engine, suspension, and brakes have all been serviced, and they operate as they should. Halogen headlights and a Pioneer head unit are perhaps the most modern things included on the vehicle.
To check out this custom 1996 Ford Thunderbird hot rod for yourself – and maybe put in a bid – be sure to visit the original eBay listing. Bidding ends the morning of Saturday, March 12th.
