Whether fair or not, the Ford Mustang has rather a reputation of being good in a straight line on the pavement, and not much else. This changed somewhat with the introduction of the latest S550 Ford Mustang for 2015, which added an independent-rear suspension for the first time.
Suddenly, Ford’s pony car could corner.
So, the Blue Oval has seen to it that both the quarter-mile and your typical road course are pretty well taken care of. What about off-road terrain?
For that, we look to KD Kalim Design, which produced the stunning rendering above of a Ford Mustang rally raid car. Based on the discontinued S197 (fifth-generation) Ford Mustang, this mud-thirsty monster boasts huge off-road tires mounted on beadlock wheels, a tall ride height, menacing push bar, and an imposing stance.
Further solidifying this raid Mustang’s off-road cred is a set of spares peaking out from the back – an absolute must for traveling cross-country at a blistering pace. At the front end, a differential is clearly visible, indicating that this Ford Mustang has been imagined with an all-wheel drive system to ease its passage over loose soil and rocks.
We don’t know if anyone’s ever built a bonkers Ford Mustang raid car – let alone one as positively radical as this – but our lives are just a little more complete after having seen this rendering. Check it out on the official KD Kalim Design Facebook page.
