Ford Australia may soon start offering warrantied performance parts for the sixth-generation Ford Mustang directly from the factory, according to Australia’s Motor Magazine. The parts would likely be offered through the Ford Licensed Accessories program, similar to how Mountune Performance parts for the Focus ST and Fiesta ST are sold in the Land Down Under.
Ford Australia CEO Grame Whickman wouldn’t announce a timeframe, saying simply: “What we would be doing is looking at Mustang parts that we would stand behind. What we are looking for is a Ford-backed part – i.e. that’s warrantable.” He denied that any Ford Mustang performance parts from America’s Roush Performance were offered locally, and iterated that the Shelby GT350 and other special editions of the sixth-generation Ford Mustang would not be sold in Australia – at least, for now.
Some aftermarket performance parts suppliers already offer Ford Mustang products in Australia, reports Motor Mag. This includes a company called Herrod, which deals official parts from the Ford Performance catalogue. The difference is that should Ford Australia add parts to its Licensed Accessories program, Aussies might be able to buy a right-hand drive Ford Mustang with bolstered performance straight from the showroom.
