Australian customers looking to get behind the wheel of Ford’s ultimate performance hot-hatch any time soon might have another thing coming.
According to Australia’s Motor Magazine, Ford Australia can’t currently give a precise time when Focus RS buyers might expect to receive their cars, but demand looks poised to greatly exceed supply – much like with the Mustang. “We are sold out this year, we’re probably close to being sold out the following year the way things are traveling,” said CEO Graeme Whickman. “So the best answer I can give you is: none available right now.”
When asked if the rabid demand for the new, 2016 Ford Focus RS came as a surprise, Mr. Whickman told Motor Mag: “I wouldn’t say [we’re] surprised by [the] demand. The car is well-known, people have been salivating over it for a period of time, but at the end of the day there are only so many RSs being built.”
So far, Ford Australia can’t say exactly how many orders for the new Focus RS have already been placed, but there is some indication that the country’s initial allotment has already been sold a few times over. That means that prospective buyers in Australia could face up to an 18-month wait time before they’re able to take delivery of the 2016 Ford Focus RS.
