The Ford Motor Company Fund, Akins Ford, and Athens Ford of Georgia have teamed up to donate a new Ford Transit van to Downtown Ministries – a Christian nonprofit based in Athens that engages with at-risk youth through after-school programs, including athletics.
Online Athens reports that the donated Ford Transit will be put to use by the nonprofit’s Downtown Academy, shuttling children to and from football, basketball, and other after-school activities. The new Ford Transit was officially handed-off during a ceremony last Friday at Downtown Ministries’ Athens office.
The Ford Motor Company Fund, Ford’s philanthropic arm, has a long history of supporting local do-good organizations like Downtown Ministries. Examples include a Ford Transit given to Salvation Army’s Eastern Michigan Division to help with disaster relief, and “mobile food pantries” based on the Ford Transit Connect that have been donated across the country to help feed the needy. The philanthropic division also helps fund community projects taken up by the Ford Volunteer Corps.
