The Ford GT Team Recounts A Trying Weekend In Nürburg: Video

Last weekend’s World Endurance Championship race, the 6 Hours of Nürburgring, didn’t go quite as well as hoped for the Ford GT program. After winning the 24 Hours of Le Mans in the GTE-Pro class and claiming three straight victories in a row in the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship, the Ford GT came upon its first hard times in a long while in Nürburg, Germany.

The GT’s IMSA effort at Lime Rock Park over the weekend didn’t fare much better, as a matter of fact.

At the 6 Hours of Nürburgring, the Ford GT team had to contend with charging Ferraris, contact with Astons, a fuel fire in the pits, and plenty more. The end result was a fourth place and a seventh place finish for the No. 66 and 67 Ford GT race cars, marking the program’s first failure to produce a podium finish in competitive road racing since its winning-streak started at Laguna Seca on May 1st (IMSA).

To hear members of the Ford GT team tell it, check out the video above, featuring drivers Harry Tincknell, Marino Franchitti, and Stefan Mücke. Next up on the WEC calendar is the 6 Hours of Mexico on September 3rd.
