Ford Motor Company has released an update for its “FordPass” mobility app which includes an advance parking feature – something touted since the app’s announcement early this year, which allows users to find, secure, and pay for parking in garages across more than 160 US cities. In-app info regarding where there are open spots is updated in real-time, and payment is handled through “FordPay,” which safely stores debit and credit card information for seamless transactions through the FordPass app.
“Finding and paying for parking is one of the biggest pain points for drivers,” Ford VP of Global Dealer and Consumer Experience Elena Ford. “This new feature is just one of many ways we are delivering better, smarter, more efficient mobility solutions for consumers with FordPass.”
Ms. Ford isn’t wrong; according to a recent Harris Poll cited by the automaker, commuters going to work or school spend an average of 14 minutes a day looking for parking – more than an hour per week. Respondents even said that the foremost advantage of ride-hailing services is to not have to find parking, and 34 percent of them use mass transit and taxis to avoid the headache altogether.
The FordPass app, launched last spring, is free to download for Ford owners and non-owners alike. Still more functionality is in the pipeline, and in the future, users might be able to rent cars, share rides, and plan multimodal transportation trips through the app.
