The current-generation Ford Mustang has only been around since the 2015 model-year, yet it won’t be long until we see some heavy revisions coming – likely for the 2018 Ford Mustang.
What do we know? Next to nothing, other than the expectation of seeing some extensive changes to the exterior, likely for the sake of keeping things fresh in the highly competitive pony car market. Currently, the Mustang is enjoying a comfortable lead in sales over both the Camaro and Challenger. Globally, it’s sold out in some countries.
Mechanically, we could see some power upgrades to the 2.3L EcoBoost, 3.7L V6 and 5.0L V8 offerings, along with the implementation of a the GM-Ford-collaborated 10-speed automatic transmission debuting on the 2017 Ford F-150 Raptor and 2017 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1. More exciting is the expectation of more variants for the 2018 Ford Mustang, such as a range-topping GT500, Boss 302 and perhaps even a Mach 1 model, based on USPTO filings and other spy photos.
