One Lucky Ford Fan Buys The World’s Only Liquid-Blue Fiesta ST

Remember Ford Performance’s stunning “Liquid Blue” paint hue? You know the one; it’s been worn by nearly every new Ford Performance car to be displayed at auto shows for the last several years, including the Shelby GT350R Mustang, F-150 Raptor, Focus RS, and yes, even the untouchable Ford GT.

While Liquid Blue can’t be had on any of the production versions of these cars (save for the GT), one lucky Ford fan managed to find their way into owning a Liquid Blue Ford Fiesta ST – by purchasing the original show car.

Writing for Jalopnik‘s “Oppositelock” blog, user quite98 told the story of how, while searching the internet for a good deal on a Ford Fiesta ST, they stumbled upon a 2015 example with 57 miles on the odometer. Originally, quite98 thought it must be the widely-available “Performance Blue,” but was intrigued to see white-and-black leather Recaro seats and white contrast-stitching on the steering wheel inside the car. “They don’t make anything like that for the ST,” quite98 wrote. “The choices for Recaro seats are either orange and black or grey and black.”

After some digging, quite98 concluded that the only Fiesta ST example like it – at least among those discoverable in an online search – was the original show car. CARFAX confirmed that it had been owned previously by Ford, and quite98 decided that it wasn’t wearing Performance Blue as they’d originally assumed, but rather the unobtainable Liquid Blue.

Quite98 went about trying to purchase the Liquid Blue Ford Fiesta ST show car from its current caretaker, a dealer in Nashville, but the hot hatch ended up going to a dealer auction before a sale went through. Weeks later, after quite98 had largely given up actively pursuing it, it happened to turn up at a dealership about 10 miles from where they live, and the Ford fan promptly pulled the trigger and bought it.

Whether or not Ford’s Fiesta ST show car, the only example ever shod in Liquid Blue from the factory, is currently worth much more than any other example is uncertain. Regardless, it’s a heck of a cool backstory, and an utterly unique hot hatch.
