This week, Ford kicked off “Go Detroit” – an innovation challenge sponsored by the automaker, whose aim is to inspire and draw out new ideas for overcoming Detroit’s mobility challenges. App developers, entrepreneurs, and the like can submit ideas to bolster the safety, availability, and accessibility of transportation throughout the city.
“To ensure people continue to enjoy freedom of movement, Ford is looking beyond the needs of today and interpreting what mobility will mean to future generations,” says Ford Executive Chairman Bill Ford. “We’re committed to developing mobility solutions for changing transportation needs worldwide. At the same time, we’re working to bring solutions to our backyard and the metro Detroit community, which is what Go Detroit is helping us accomplish.”
Interested parties can submit ideas at GoDetroitChallenge.com. Submissions that show promise will go on to a semifinal round, where said parties will work with city stakeholders, Ford mobility experts, and a Ford-sponsored startup accelerator named “TechStars Mobility, driven by Detroit” to refine their ideas. From those semifinalists, a panel of Ford experts and Detroit representatives will pick six winning submissions to receive a combined total of $60,000.
