Happy Thanksgiving From Ford Authority!

In the United States, today is Thanksgiving: a holiday which is truly little more than a thinly-veiled excuse to cram our faces with turkey, yams, cranberry sauce, and half-a-dozen other foods we seldom see throughout the rest of the year, while gulping down fermented liquids to help us soldier through Grandma’s unwitting racism.

However, when celebrated properly, Thanksgiving also gives us a chance to pause and take stock of all the things in our lives for which we’re most thankful. Here at Ford Authority, we would like to do just that.

This Year, We’re Thankful For…

Ford Performance. That’s it: just the whole business unit that is Ford Performance.

“Oh, wow,” you’re likely now saying to yourself, tongue firmly planted in your cheek. “That’s soooo original. You’re thankful for fast, fun performance products? Bravo!” And then you start your sarcastic slow clap.

But just back up a moment and consider this: Ford Performance has enjoyed a very good – very¬†important – year in 2016. The new Ford GT racing program succeeded in its quest to win the 24 Hours of Le Mans in the GTE Pro class, exactly 50 years after the automaker’s first outright victory there in 1966. The immensely-enjoyable Ford Focus RS launched to near-universal praise. And then, Ford Performance went and released a full suite of power upgrades for Mustangs GT and EcoBoost.

Considering that, it seems there’s hardly been a more appropriate time to thank our lucky stars that the Ford Performance unit exists. Plus, lest we forget, Ford Performance is keeping the manual transmission alive at a time when the conversation has shifted almost completely to autonomy, mobility, and “multimodal transportation.” Ford has a bit of a multiple personality disorder in this regard, being at the forefront of much of this conversation with their “Smart Mobility” plan and unrelenting commitment to putting autonomous cars on the road in the midterm future.

Oh, well. So long as we can row our own gears in awesome performance cars from the Fiesta ST up to the Shelby GT350 Mustang.

So, for recognizing the importance of driver engagement, launching numerous products that capture the imagination of gearheads, and having one heck of a year in motorsport, Ford Performance is what we’re most grateful for in 2016.
