Special-edition models of existing vehicles certainly seems to be all the rage in Europe – or at least at Ford, which tends to announce a new one every couple of months or so. At an event last Tuesday at Ford’s Cologne manufacturing facility in Germany, the Blue Oval introduced a whole pack of these, including the new Ford Transit Custom Black Edition.
Recycling the formula used on models like the Ford Fiesta and Focus Color Editions, the Ford Transit Custom Black Edition will offer a bold, contrasting exterior color scheme to set it apart from the herd. Just 1,000 units will be sold across Europe, each being based on the short-wheelbase, 290 Trend series model with 170-horsepower, 2.0-liter EcoBlue diesel and 6-speed manual transmission. Each will get the sprightly chassis setup of the enhanced chassis settings from the Sport series van.
The new Ford Transit Custom Black Edition will be available in four different color schemes: Race Red, Deep Impact Blue, Frozen White (with Jet Black accents), and Absolute Black (with Race Red accents).
“Many of our retail customers are no longer satisfied with a standard white van, and these stunning new vehicles provide the perfect solution,” says Ford Europe Commercial Vehicles General Manager Hans Schep. “The new Transit Custom makes a really positive statement about their business, and looks great on the driveway at the weekend.”
