The Ford Authority Take
The 33 drop in Mustang deliveries in January follows a 19 percent decrease for the pony car in December 2016. We posit that the drop is attributable to a substantial reduction in the popularity of passenger cars in the U.S. market, as consumers favor crossovers (CUVs) and sport utility vehicles (SUVs) over sedans and coupes.
In addition, industry analysts believe that the pony car segment in which Ford’s Mustang, Chevy’s Camaro, and Dodge’s Challenger compete, has peaked in 2015 and is now on the decline, despite positive indicators such as strong loyalty figures.
That said, we wouldn’t scoff at over 5,000 Mustang deliveries during a winter month. Let’s if how the updated, 2018 Mustang helps sales.
