The all-new, 2017 Ford F-150 Raptor engaged in a bit of a shoot-off recently with a bit of an unlikely competitor: the Ariel Nomad. Jethro Bovingdon was recently given one of each to flog in the sands of the Johnson Valley Off-Highway Vehicle Recreation Area, and he’s recorded his thoughts in a video for Drivetribe.
At a glance, the two vehicles couldn’t be more different. The Ford F-150 Raptor is, of course, built to be perfectly pleasant and practical on the street, while offering drivers the chance to traverse some off-road terrain at high speed once in a while. The Ariel Nomad, although street-legal, lacks most of the attributes that typically make for an acceptable daily driver. It’s much more of a purpose-built plaything, although one that offers impressive performance on the pavement should you lack access to an expansive patch of desert.
But in actual fact, take both the F-150 Raptor and the Ariel Nomad away far away from the concrete and asphalt, and their shared mission becomes apparent. For more, watch the video above.
