Ford Files Patent For An Electric, Sliding Bed Platform For F-150 Hybrid

Ford Motor Company has applied for a patent in the United States for an electrically-powered sliding bed platform for use in the forthcoming Ford F-150 Hybrid, website The Drive reports.

Ford’s bed tray could be useful not only for retrieval of cargo from the truck’s bed, but also, possibly, as a work table. The patent application details a tray driven by an electric motor that could be extended from the rear of the truck at the push of a button, stopping its motion if an obstruction is detected. Power for the tray would come from the electric drive motor within the Ford F-150 Hybrid’s electrified powertrain, says The Drive.

Ford has suggested previously that the forthcoming Ford F-150 Hybrid will be aimed at providing greater utility and performance as much as it is at improved efficiency. To that end, the electrified pickup will offer users the ability to utilize it as a portable generator, powering tools and equipment at the job site.
