Formula Drift team RTR Motorsports, which enjoyed a strong 2016 season with Vaughn Gittin Jr. at the wheel, has just tapped driver Chelsea DeNofa to helm a second Ford Mustang RTR in the series this year.
“2016 was an amazing year for myself and our team,” said Gittin in a release. “This year we’re coming back stronger than ever with a two car team with Chelsea manning the wheel of the BC Racing Nitto Tire Mustang RTR Spec 5-D. He’s an incredible driver, and a fellow fun-haver, who I’ve have had some serious battles with on the track. His aggressive driving style and never-give-up attitude makes him a perfect addition to the team.”
RTR Motorsports has another new weapon this year, as well: a brand-new, Ford Performance/Roush Yates Engines RY45 motor, which peaks at around 1,000 horsepower and boasts a lofty, 9,000-rpm redline. Each car is also set up with a proprietary coilover-suspension system from BC Racing and Nitto NT05 tires.
Jalopnik calls DeNofa’s move to RTR Motorsports “dramatic,” given his underdog status in Formula Drift. “DeNofa’s little BMW efforts were always down on budget, down on power, down on reliability compared to nearly everybody else he competed against,” writes Raphael Orlove.
We wish him luck in the 2017 Formula Drift season.
