Ford’s bonkers Shelby GT350 and GT350R Mustang models will live on through the 2018 model year, the automaker confirmed today. Both models will carry over unchanged from 2017, except for some newly-available exterior colors.
This corroborates info we gleaned last December from an official, leaked communiqué urging dealers to enroll for 2018 Shelby GT350 allotments before March.
In all, three new paint hues will be available on the 2018 Shelby GT350 and GT350R: Orange Fury, Kona Blue, and Lead Foot Gray. Everything else – from the 5.2-liter, flat-plane-crank V8, to the standard motor-, transmission-, and differential-oil coolers – will carry over on both models. The MagneRide suspension, which started off a part of the optional “Track Pack” for 2016 (along with the oil coolers), will also continue to be standard equipment.
Beyond 2018, the Ford Shelby GT350 and GT350R Mustangs don’t seem likely to soldier on, as the regular Ford Mustang moves on to better things with a thorough refresh for 2018 and a rumored Shelby GT500 model. It’s suspected that the Blue Oval is also hard at work on a high-performance Mach 1 model and a special “Bullitt-edition” ‘Stang.
If you’re still hoping to lock down a Shelby GT350 Mustang and haven’t yet made your move, now might be the time to act.
