Ford and Lincoln dealers in the United States delivered 236,250 new vehicles in March 2017, a 7.2 percent decrease compared to March 2016. Ford brand sales decreased 7.5 percent to 226,696 units, while Lincoln sales decreased 1.4 percent to 9,554 units.
According to vice president of U.S. Marketing, Sales and Service Mark LaNeve, the automaker had “the strongest year-over-year increase in transaction prices of an truck manufacturer in the industry.”

Sales types:
- Cumulative Ford Motor Company sales, which consist of Ford and Lincoln sales, decreased 7.2 percent to 236,250 units:
- Retail sales decreased 1.5 percent to 157,740 vehicles
- Fleet sales, including daily rental, commercial and government segments, decreased 16.9 percent to 78,510 units as a result of strong year-ago results that had customer orders front-loaded into early 2016. Fleet sales accounted for 33.2 percent of total sales:
- Daily rental deliveries accounted for 15.7 percent of total sales, down 1.0 percentage points
- Commercial deliveries accounted for 11.6 percent of total sales, down 2.5 percentage points
- Government deliveries accounted for 5.8 percent of total sales, down 0.4 percentage points
- Truck sales were up 2.5 percent to 102,381 units
- SUV sales were down 3.4 percent to 76,625 units
- Car sales were down 24.2 percent to 57,244 units
Average Transaction Prices (ATPs):
- Based on J.D. Power and Associates PIN data, ATPs increased $1,800 in March compared to an industry increase of $190
Inventory:
- Gross-stock March month-end inventory, which includes in-transit and dealer stock, was 701,801 units for an 80-day supply, representing:
- An increase of 19,701 units from the 682,100 units at the end of February 2017
- An increase of 1 day from the 79 days supply at the end of February 2017
- On-the-ground March month-end inventory was 578,958 units for a 66-days supply, representing:
- An increase of 4,801 units from the 574,157 units at the end of February 2017
- No change in the days supply of 66 days at the end of February 2017
Ford sales decreased 7.5 percent to 226,696 units:
- Ford C-Max sales decreased 21.68 percent to 1,333 units
- Ford E-Series sales decreased 18 percent to 4,769 units
- Ford Edge sales decreased 16.24 percent to 11,730 units
- Ford Escape sales decreased 1.43 percent to 28,113 units; retail sales increased 13 percent for the Escape’s best March sales
- Gains came from the West (up 7 percent), Southeast (up 16 percent) and the Great Lakes region (up 26 percent)
- Ford Expedition sales increased 42.72 percent to 5,472 units; the all-new 2018 Expedition goes on sale this fall
- Ford Explorer sales decreased 6.36 percent to 20,232 units
- Ford F-Series sales increased 10.08 percent to 81,330 units, its best March sales performance in more than a decade thanks to the new Super Duty and F-150 Raptor
- F-Series Average Transaction Prices increased more than $2,500
- Lariat, King Ranch and Platinum represented 56 percent of 2017 Super Duty retail sales; a rich mix drove transaction prices to the highest in the segment
- Ford Fiesta sales increased 20.64 percent to 5,488 units
- Ford Flex sales decreased 14.48 percent to 1,796 units
- Ford Focus sales decreased 22.46 percent to 14,437 units
- Ford Fusion sales decreased 36.79 percent to 18,759 units
- Ford GT sales totaled 2 units
- Ford Heavy Trucks sales decreased 17.73 percent to 1,355 units
- Ford Mustang sales decreased 27.41 percent to 9,120 units
- Ford Police Interceptor Sedan sales decreased 33.59 percent to 611 units
- Ford Police Interceptor Utility sales increased 13.72 percent to 3,192 units
- Ford Taurus sales decreased 5.44 percent to 4,030 units
- Ford Transit sales decreased 18.31 percent to 12,167 units
- Ford Transit Connect sales decreased 23.74 percent to 2,760 units
Lincoln sales decreased 1.4 percent to 9,554 units, which include its best March retail sales performance in nine years:
- Lincoln Continental sales totaled 963 units
- Lincoln MKC sales increased 16.77 percent to 2,284 units
- Lincoln MKS sales decreased 97.18 percent to 22 units
- Lincoln MKT sales decreased 43.33 percent to 221 units
- Lincoln MKX sales decreased 3 percent to 2,688 units
- Lincoln MKZ sales decreased 0.04 percent to 2,479 units
- Lincoln Navigator sales decreased 31.58 percent to 897 units
- On a retail level, car sales increased 11 percent while SUV sales increased 2 percent
