How To Install A Short-Throw Shifter On The Ford Shelby GT350 Mustang: Video

The current-generation Ford Shelby GT350 and GT350R Mustangs are track-devouring performance machines right from the factory, but the quest for speed is one without end. To help owners in their quest, Ford Performance offers a bolt-on short-throw shifter kit for 2016+ Shelby GT350 models to help make short work of those gear-changes.

In the above video, we get a quick tutorial on the installation procedure, which Ford Performance rates at three out of five wrenches in terms of difficulty. We’d guess that means “slightly above average.”

Short-throw shifters have long been an important weapon in the tuner’s standard arsenal, as they help to minimize how far the driver must move the shift lever in order to change gears, making shifting quicker – at least in theory. Of course, the Shelby GT350’s transmission – the Tremec TR-3160 6-speed – doesn’t exactly need any help providing a quick, easy gear-change; it’s already proven itself time and again.

Fun Annoying fact: the TR-3160 is the very same transmission that’s used in all manual-equipped sixth-generation Camaros. Run-of-the-mill S550 Mustangs have to make do with the familiar old Getrag MT82.

Check out the video above if you’re curious to see how involved it is to install that new Shelby GT350 short-throw shifter.
