Cars.com today released the results of its annual “American-Made Index“, revealing that the Ford Taurus full-size sedan, Ford F-150 full-size pickup truck, and Ford Expedition full-size SUV are all among the ten most “American-made” vehicles available for 2017. The Taurus placed third on the top-ten list, the F-150 sixth, and the Expedition seventh.
This year, Cars.com analyzed 120 different light-duty passenger vehicles to produce its 2017 index, looking at assembly location, domestic parts content, the country of origin of the engine and transmission, and the U.S. factory employment adjusted by sales. That last metric allows the outlet to assess how many jobs each sale supports.
Cars.com had to modify its methodology for the first time in the American-Made Index’s 11-year history this year, getting rid of restrictions like the requirement that cars have a domestic parts content of 75 percent or above, and the disqualification of models about to be discontinued without a US-built replacement. If the methodology had remained identical to how it has been each year since the index’s inception, the outlet says that just three models would have qualified.
