Ford Australia Recalls Ford Focus Over Potential Fuel Leak Issues

Ford Motor Company of Australia is recalling the Ford Focus over an issue that could allow the vehicles to ingest a certain level of dust and result in a fuel tank leak.

The defect: certain vehicles under particular environmental conditions may ingest excessive levels of dust, which may block the carbon canister during a purge cycle. This could cause the fuel tank to reach vacuum levels that exceed design limits.

The hazards: if this condition is not corrected, the fuel tank may crack, resulting in a fuel leak. A fuel leak in the presence of an ignition source can lead to a fire.

Affected vehicles: Ford Focus built from April 12, 2011 through September 29, 2015.

Number of vehicles affected: 42,988 units (Australian figure).

Owners should: Ford will write to owners of affected vehicles. Owners are advised to contact their local Ford dealership for an inspection and rectification.
