2017 Ford GT Left Out Of Motor Trend’s ‘World’s Greatest Drag Race’

The all-new, 2017 Ford GT was conspicuously absent from Car and Driver‘s annual Lightning Lap feature earlier this year, with Ford refusing to provide an example of the 647-horsepower supercar for the publication, and failing to furnish an explanation.

But it’s not just Car and Driver; the Ford GT was also left out of Motor Trend‘s annual “Best Driver’s Car” and “World’s Greatest Drag Race” features, and although we could find no mention of the exclusive Blue Oval offering in any of the related articles, we have to imagine they tried to secure one. It’s a darn shame the California-based outlet wasn’t able to, as we figure the Ford GT’s 647-horsepower EcoBoost motor, 3,050-pounds dry weight, and hydraulic power steering would have made it a formidable contender in both contests.

Making matters worse for Ford, this year’s Best Driver’s Car was won by the Ferrari 488 GTB – the street-legal version of the very car it’s now beaten two years in a row at the 24 Hours of Le Mans endurance race. Just as in racing, there’s no award here for skirting a loss by refusing to participate.

Regardless, be sure to watch Motor Trend‘s “World’s Greatest Drag Race 7” below. It’s a fun feature – even without the super-exclusive, high-performance Ford GT.
