It’s now been more than three years since the current Ford GT supercar first debuted as a concept at the 2015 Detroit Auto Show, and even still, the car-loving public is nowhere near tired of it. In fact, just last month, readers of The Detroit News named the exclusive high-performance vehicle the “Best Dream Machine” at the 2018 North American International Auto Show in Detroit.
In much the same vein, the 2018 Ford GT has won a Best of Show award at this year’s Chicago Auto Show, as well, being voted the “Vehicle I’d Most Like To Have In My Driveway” by the show’s attendees. The Blue Oval sportscar was reportedly neck-and-neck with the Chevrolet Corvette for this year’s honor, pulling ahead in the polls on the final day of voting.
The current Ford GT’s trophy case must be getting rather crowded by this point. When it first debuted, the GT promptly took home an EyesOn Design award for Best Production Vehicle. The next year, it won the Gene Ritvo Award For Design And Elegance before going racing at Le Mans and taking first in the GTE-Pro class – an occasion that was named “Moment of the Year 2017” by Autoweek. After Le Mans, the supercar went on to become the first automobile ever to win a Gold Clio Award for Product Design.
The Ford GT will have plenty more chances to bag additional awards and race wins over the next couple of years as both production and the racing program carry on through 2019.
