Ford Motor Company reported 244,306 new vehicle deliveries for March 2018 in the U.S. market, a 3.4 percent increase compared to March 2017. Sales increased at Ford and decreased at Lincoln.
“March represented a strong start to the spring selling season for both Ford and the industry”, said Mark LaNeve Ford vice president, U.S. Marketing, Sales and Service. “We saw incredible demand for our trucks and SUVs, selling over 87,000 F-Series pickups. Ford brand SUVs established a new sales record in March. Demand for our all-new Lincoln Navigator is off the charts, with some customers buying the SUV sight unseen.”

FoMoCo sales overview:
Sales types:
- Cumulative Ford Motor Company sales, which consist of Ford and Lincoln sales, increased 3.4 percent to 244,306 units:
- Retail sales increased 0.8 percent to 158,996 vehicles, accounting for 65.1 percent of total Ford Motor Company March 2018 sales
- Fleet sales, including daily rental, commercial and government segments, increased 8.7 percent to 85,310 units, accounting for 34.9 percent of total Ford Motor Company March 2018 sales:
- Daily rental deliveries accounted for 17.7 percent of total sales, an increase of 2 percentage points
- Commercial deliveries accounted for 12.4 percent of total sales, an increase of 0.8 percentage points
- Government deliveries accounted for 4.8 percent of total sales, a decrease of 1.1 percentage points
- The increase in March fleet sales is to offset declines in January and February, and bring first quarter results in line with 2017
- Car sales decreased 8.1 percent to 52,635 units
- SUV sales increased 7.5 percent to 82,395 units
- Truck sales increased 6.7 percent to 109,276 units
Average Transaction Prices (ATPs):
- Overall transaction prices grew $1,400 to $36,300 for the month, boosted by its newest products
- The ATPs are the highest of any full-line automaker and the $700 growth rate of the industry
Inventory:
- March month-end inventory on a gross stock level, which includes in-transit and dealer stock, was 719,157 units for an 82 days supply, representing:
- An increase of 1,596 units from the 717,561 units at the end of February 2018
- A decrease of 7 days from the 89 supply at the end of February 2018
- An increase of 17,356 units from the 701,801 units at the end of March 2017
- An increase of 2 days from the 80 days supply at the end of March 2017
- March month-end inventory on the ground, which consists exclusively of vehicles in dealer stock, was 572,125 units for a 66 days supply, representing:
- A decrease of 345 units from the 572,470 units at the end of February 2018
- A decrease of 5 days from the 71 days supply at the end of February 2018
- A decrease of 6,833 units from the 578,958 units at the end of March 2017
- Flat from the 66 days supply at the end of March 2017
Ford sales increased 3.6 percent to 234,954 units:
- Ford C-Max sales decreased 25.36 percent to 995 units
- Ford E-Series sales increased 8.7 percent to 5,184 units
- Ford EcoSport sales totaled 3,296 units, as inventories improve
- Sales were strongest in Los Angeles and New York
- Ford Edge sales increased 18.66 percent to 13,919 units
- Ford Escape sales decreased 2.64 percent to 27,370 units
- Ford Expedition sales increased 3.31 percent to 5,653 units, as dealer inventories improve
- Retail sales grew 46.1 percent in March
- The all-new Expedition days-to-turn is 17 days or less
- Groth is coming from all regions in the country
- The SUV is enjoying strong demand for the high-series Platinum model, which represented 26 percent of sales in March, expanding transaction pricing by $11,500
- Ford Explorer sales increased 3.89 percent to 21,020 units
- Ford F-Series sales increased 6.99 percent to 87,011 units, representing its best March sales performance since 2000 and 11th consecutive month of gains
- Transaction prices expanded by $1,700 to $46,800 per truck
- Customers continue to select more Crew Cabs and high-trim level trucks
- Ford Fiesta sales decreased 9.55 percent to 4,964 units
- Ford Flex sales decreased 17.32 percent to 1,485 units
- Ford Focus sales increased 11.78 percent to 16,137 units
- Ford Fusion sales decreased 14.16 percent to 16,103 units
- Ford GT sales increased 650 percent to 15 units
- Ford Heavy Trucks sales decreased 5.17 percent to 1,285 units
- Ford Mustang sales decreased 5.35 percent to 8,632 units
- Ford Police Interceptor Sedan sales decreased 4.26 percent to 585 units
- Ford Police Interceptor Utility sales decreased 8.05 percent to 2,935 units
- Ford Taurus sales decreased 36.25 percent to 2,569 units
- Ford Transit sales increased 8.27 percent to 13,173 units
- Ford Transit Connect sales decreased 4.96 percent to 2,623 units
- Ford brand SUVs were up 7.3 percent during the month, representing a new all-time March record
Lincoln sales decreased 2.1 percent to 9,352 units:
- Lincoln Continental sales decreased 13.6 percent to 832 units
- Lincoln MKC sales decreased 5.91 percent to 2,149 units
- Lincoln MKS sales decreased 100 percent to 0 units
- Lincoln MKT sales increased 14.03 percent to 252 units
- Lincoln MKX sales decreased 3.09 percent to 2,605 units
- Lincoln MKZ sales decreased 27.27 percent to 1,803 units
- Lincoln Navigator sales increased 90.75 percent to 1,711 units as inventories improve
- Retail sales of the all-new Navigator saw a triple-digit increase in March, gaining 101.6 percent on a mix of 80 percent Black Label and Reserve models – Lincoln’s two highest trim levels
- Average Transaction Prices for the Navigator grew $25,600
- Days to turn is an average of 10 days
- Growth is coming from all regions, with the West seeing a 201 percent increase; the largest region for Navigator sales is the Central region, which saw Navigator sales grow 73 percent
In the first three months of 2018, Ford Motor Company sales decreased 2.9 percent to 599,581 units.
