The New Saleen Sportruck XR: A Raptor By Another Name

Saleen Automotive is getting ready to publicly pull the wraps off of its latest performance vehicle – the Ford F-150-based Saleen Sportruck XR – at Harris Ford Lincoln in Lynnwood, Washington tonight. Like Ford’s home-grown F-150 Raptor, it’s a built-up, potent sledgehammer of an off-roader, developed in collaboration with Greg Foutz of Foutz Motorsports fame.

Starting with a Ford F-150 XLT, the new Saleen Sportruck XR is enahanced with Saleen-designed front and rear bumpers; body-color handles on the doors and tailgate; body-color fender flares; and a Saleen-designed grille, tailgate panel, hood, and sidesteps. Six-spoke alloy wheels measuring 8.5 inches wide with a 17-inch diameter, shod in General Tire Grabber X3 off-road tires, are fitted as standard, although narrower 8-inch-wide wheels in Chrome or Carbonite are available.

Both naturally-aspirated and supercharged powertrains are available, the latter making 700 or more horsepower, and both feature a Saleen Tuned Exhaust and high-performance filters. Stopping power is provided by Saleen Signature brakes with 13.8-inch vented rotors, and 2-piston front calipers with single-piston rears. Six-piston calipers with either 13.6- or 14-inch slotted front rotors are available as an option.

Naturally, the suspension hasn’t evaded modification, the front of the truck gaining standard 2.5 coil-over shocks that level the front of the truck with the rear, while the rear gets its own set of 2.5 Smooth Series shocks. On the top-spec “Black Label” model, those shocks are replaced with custom-tuned bypass shocks with 12 inches of travel up front, and 14 inches in the rear. The Black Label also gets Saleen upper and lower control arms; Saleen spindles; Saleen rear leaf springs; and Saleen bump stops with frame gussets.

The Saleen Sportruck XR’s non-functional upgrades include a Saleen windshield banner, Saleen door chevron stripes, a Saleen 30th Championship wreath badge, and Saleen serialized front bumper numbers. Inside, embroidered headrests, embroidered floor mats, white-face gauges, and a dash plaque with the model and serialized VIN make the cabin a special place to be.

In addition to all of the above, Saleen says it will work with customers who wish to further customize their trucks with the F-150’s factory 302A, 501A, and 502A equipment groups.

“Continually adding to our lineup of performance vehicles is paramount to Saleen Automotive,” says Saleen CEO Steve Saleen. “We are introducing an off-road truck to our high-performance vehicles lineup with the Sport Truck XR.”

The new Saleen Sportruck XR will be unveiled tonight at 7pm PDT, and a stream of the event will be available on the Saleen Facebook page.
