The high-powered, high-performance Shelby GT Mustang is back and better than ever for the 2019 model year, now boasting 480 horsepower and up, as well as a new suspension setup developed in conjunction with the wizards at Ford Performance. An optional Ford Performance supercharger system takes the car beyond 700 horsepower, and as always, the car is decked-out in aggressive, bespoke Shelby bodywork. There’s even a Shelby “GT-H” version – where the “H” stands for “Heritage” – that builds on the base model’s standard features with things like Ford Performance dampers; unique Shelby front fascia assembly; lighted door sill plates; and black-and-gold/white-and-gold exterior color schemes.
The 2019 Shelby GT Mustang makes its 480 naturally-aspirated horsepower thanks to a Shelby by Borla cat-back exhaust, exactly matching the new Bullitt Mustang in terms of peak grunt. Handling is aided by Ford Performance-sourced springs and sway bars, with adjustability provided by a set of caster/camber plates, plus staggered 20-inch Shelby wheels. The optional Ford Performance supercharger is slated for late availability, and will only be available on post-title cars – that is, Mustang GTs that were already purchased from the factory prior to Shelby GT conversion.
Aesthetically, there’s a lot going on even without the optional GT-H package, including a unique Shelby “deep-draw” hood with hood vents; Shelby upper grille; rocker panels and wings; tailgate spoiler; taillight panel; Le Mans stripes; and of course, plenty of identifying badging. This includes a CSM numbered dash plaque and engine plate.
“The 2019 Shelby GT exudes serious sex appeal,” says Shelby American President Gary Patterson. “We designed a gorgeous car to make any drive an adventure with thrilling performance and dynamic handling. The Shelby GT can gobble up miles on a road trip or rip up the corners on the track. It is equally fun cruising to the beach or to the office. Plus, this is the only naturally aspirated V8 Shelby car that can be optioned in convertible and with an automatic transmission. Enthusiasts will love to drive it all day, every day.”
The new, 2019 Shelby GT Mustang will be available in select Ford showrooms across the US, with pricing starting at $61,345 for the regular model, and $66,345 for the GT-H. Those prices include the cost of the donor 2019 Ford Mustang GT, assuming the donor car is a manual transmission-equipped coupe with Equipment Group 300A.
