Ford Motor Company reported 218,504 new vehicle deliveries for August 2018 in the U.S. market, a 4.1 percent increase compared to August 2017. Sales increased at both of FoMoCo’s brands – Ford and Lincoln.
“F-Series completed 16 straight months of sales gains, while Ford Brand SUVs were up 21 percent in August”, said Mark LaNeve Ford vice president, U.S. Marketing, Sales and Service. “With greater production output and stronger stock positions, our two newest products had a terrific August. Sales of our all-new Expedition were up a strong 95 percent. Right now, the hottest vehicle in America is our all-new Lincoln Navigator, which saw sales expand by more than 100 percent in August.”

Sales types:
- Cumulative Ford Motor Company sales, which consist of Ford and Lincoln sales, increased 4.1 percent to 218,504 units:
- Retail sales increased 1.1 percent or 16,650 units to 1,727 vehicles, accounting for 75.9 percent of total Ford Motor Company August 2018 sales
- Fleet sales, including daily rental, commercial and government segments, increased 15 percent or 6,880 units to 52,710 units, accounting for 24.1 percent of total Ford Motor Company August 2018 sales
- Daily rental deliveries accounted for 2.4 percent of total sales, an increase of 0.3 percentage points
- Commercial deliveries accounted for 14.8 percent of total sales, an increase of 2.0 percentage points
- Government deliveries accounted for 6.9 percent of total sales, representing no change in percentage points
- Car sales decreased 21.3 percent to 37,522 units
- SUV sales increased 20.1 percent to 78,809 units
- Truck sales increased 5.7 percent to 102,173 units
Average Transaction Prices (ATPs):
- Overall transaction prices gained $1,400 during the month, growing at twice the rate of the overall industry average.
Inventory:
- August month-end inventory on a gross stock level, which includes in-transit and dealer stock, was 605,851 units for a 75 days supply, representing:
- An increase of 716 units from the 605,135 units at the end of July 2018
- No change in the amount of days supply, which was 75 days at the end of July 2018
- A decrease of 24,979 units from the 630,830 units at the end of August 2017
- A decrease of 6 days from the 81 days supply at the end of August 2017
- August month-end inventory on the ground, which consists exclusively of vehicles in dealer stock, was 483,908 units for a 60 days supply, representing:
- A decrease of 22,037 units from the 505,945 units at the end of July 2018
- A decrease of 3 days from the 63 days supply at the end of July 2018
- A decrease of 34,269 units from the 518,177 units at the end of August 2017
- A decrease of 7 days from the 67 days supply at the end of August 2017
Ford sales increased 4.2 percent to 209,559 units:
- Ford C-Max sales decreased 78 percent to 377 units
- Ford E-Series sales decreased 17.86 percent to 4,020 units
- Ford EcoSport sales totaled 4,769 units
- Ford Edge sales increased 6.69 percent to 11,563 units
- Ford Escape sales increased 3.23 percent to 24,395 units
- Ford Expedition sales increased 94.57 percent to 5,485 units
- High series SUVs drove a $13,100 increase in transaction prices
- Ford Explorer sales increased 19.17 percent to 21,599 units, its best August sales performance in 14 years
- Ford F-Series sales increased 6.27 percent to 81,839 units
- Ford F-Series marked its 16th consecutive month of year-over-year gains
- The results represented the best F-Series August sales since 2005
- High trim series Super Duty made up more than half of Super Duty retail sales, with record Super Duty pricing of $58,700 per truck
- Ford Fiesta sales decreased 7.28 percent to 3,938 units
- Ford Flex sales increased 6.75 percent to 2,023 units
- Ford Focus sales decreased 30.13 percent to 8,978 units
- Ford Fusion sales decreased 35.06 percent to 11,286 units
- Ford GT sales increased 7.69 percent to 14 units
- Ford Heavy Trucks sales decreased 7.37 percent to 804 units
- Ford Mustang sales increased 35.27 percent to 7,487 units
- Ford Police Interceptor Sedan sales increased 3.87 percent to 752 units
- Ford Police Interceptor Utility sales decreased 7.09 percent to 2,436 units
- Ford Taurus sales increased 4.82 percent to 2,284 units
- Ford Transit sales increased 25.1 percent to 12,725 units
- Business confidence remains strong, providing continued strong support for Transit sales
- Ford Transit Connect sales decreased 24.28 percent to 2,785 units
- Ford is America’s top seller of trucks, SUVs and vans combined. These vehicles totaled 174,443 sales last month – a gain of 11.4 percent. In the first eight months of 2018, Ford brand pickups, vans and SUVs posted sales of 1,300,400 vehicles, an increase of 3.5 percent
- Ford brand SUV sales increased 21 percent to 72,270 vehicles
Lincoln sales increased 2.7 percent to 8,945 units:
- Lincoln Continental sales decreased 23.28 percent to 626 units
- Lincoln MKC sales increased 3.41 percent to 2,423 units
- Lincoln MKT sales decreased 11.89 percent to 200 units
- Lincoln MKX sales increased 0.97 percent to 2,394 units
- Lincoln MKZ sales decreased 17.59 percent to 1,780 units
- Lincoln Navigator sales increased 101.59 percent to 1,522 units
- California continues to be one of the biggest growth markets for the new Navigator, with retail sales up 230 percent in August
- Transaction prices were up $29,900 last month, totaling $84,000 per unit
In the first eight months of 2018, Ford Motor Company sales decreased 1.2 percent to 1,690,221 units.
