Australians have a very cool-looking new 2019 Ranger package in the lineup. The new model is the 2019 Ford Ranger Sport Special Edition, and it slots into the Aussie Ranger line between the XLS and XLT 4×4 trucks. The price for the 2019 Ford Ranger Sport Special Edition is AUD $55,140 or about $38,739 here in the States when equipped with an automatic.
The extra AUD $6,000 that Aussies will drop on the Sport Special Edition gets them some nice visual upgrades and tech. 2019 Ford Ranger Sport Special Edition buyers can choose the True Red color seen in the photos, Meteor Grey, Arctic White, Shadow Black, or Aluminum Metallic. All colors get the same black grille, side mirrors, door handles, and 17-inch alloy wheels.
The package also includes a black rear bumper, matte black sports bar, and a bedliner. The bedliner appears to be the vinyl pre-formed type, not the spray in sort that you get on the Ranger Black edition here in the States. Tech features include Autonomous Emergency Braking with Pedestrian Detection, Lane Keeping Aid with Lane Departure Warning and Driver Alert, Traffic Sign Recognition, and automatic high-beam headlights.
The tech inside the car includes the SYNC3 package with an 8-inch touchscreen, 4.2-inch digital instrument cluster, DAB+ radio, navigation, CarPlay, and Android Auto, dual-zone climate control, backup camera, and keyless entry. The engine in the Sprot Special Edition is a 3.2-liter TDCi unit making 197 horsepower and 347 pound-feett of torque.
It can be had with a six-speed manual or automatic transmission and can tow up to 7,716 pounds. The package looks very nice with the black rear bumper and the sports bar; we wish that sports bar was part of the Black edition here in the States.
