Competitive Sales Comparison

Ford Edge sales performance puts it in seventh place out of a total of 19 competitors in its segment in terms of overall second-quarter 2019 sales volume.

The Jeep Grand Cherokee dominated the segment with over 65,000 units sold, commanding a segment share of 13 percent. It was trailed closely by the Toyota Highlander in second place, which saw 58,562 sales and commanded an 11 percent segment share, followed by the Ford Explorer in third place with 39,901 units sold and a market share of 7 percent. It’s worth noting that the Grand Cherokee was the only model in the top three spots to see a growth in sales volume.

Other models to see sales volume growth include the Chevrolet Traverse (see Chevrolet Traverse Sales), GMC Acadia (see GMC Acadia Sales), Hyundai Santa Fe, Kia Sorrento, Dodge Durango, Volkswagen Atlas, Nissan Pathfinder, Subaru Ascent, and Mitsubishi Outlander.

The Ford Authority Take

The decline in Ford Edge sales is not welcome news, especially considering current market trends that strongly favor crossovers and SUVs over traditional sedans.

We attribute the ongoing decline in Ford Edge sales volume due to competitive pressures caused by newer and more attractive offerings from Chevrolet, Honda, Hyundai, Kia, and Jeep. The circumstance is certainly disappointing given the opportunity that exists in this space. Here’s to hoping that the refreshed 2019 Ford Edge will be enough for Ford to claw back lost ground, and then some.

Frankie's first favorite car was a 1968 Ford Mustang, and he's had a strong appreciation for the nameplate ever since. Later in his youth he became infatuated with Eleanor, thanks to Nicholas Cage's stellar performance. Frank's a real jokester, too.
