Ford Motor Company has filed to register Bronco Outer Banks as a trademark with the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO), Ford Authority has uncovered.
The Ford Bronco Outer Banks application was filed on July 25th, 2019 and is assigned serial number 88535982. The application states that the name will be used in conjunction with “Land motor vehicles, namely, passenger automobiles, pick-up trucks, sport utility vehicles.”
This is the first time that Ford has filed to register Bronco Outer Banks with the USPTO.
The Ford Authority Take
This trademark filing makes it pretty clear that The Blue Oval is planning to use the Outer Banks name as a variant or package for the upcoming 2021 Ford Bronco off-road SUV. Only question now is what kind of a package or variant will it represent?
In the recent past, Ford Authority has uncovered various Bronco-related trademarks, including Bronco Sport and Bronco Scout. And even more recently, Ford Authority uncovered that the Dearborn-based automaker filed two trademark applications with the USPTO for Badlands and Adrenaline. The Badlands application seems to foreshadow an upcoming off-road package for current Ford vehicles, while Adrenaline seems to hint at a performance variant. And just last week, we discovered Ford filed to trademark Ranger Wildtrak, foreshadowing that the Wildtrak model/trim level is coming for the U.S.-market Ford Ranger pickup truck.
The all-new Ford Bronco is expected to launch for the 2021 model year. The model will have midsize SUV dimensions and will be focused on conquering non-paved roads, thereby becoming a direct competitor to the Jeep Wrangler. The new Bronco will be loosely based on the current Ford Ranger T6, but with many changes and modifications that make it its own model.
