Ford Europe has been working with a journalist to make videos as they search for the greatest driving road in Europe. So far the series has driven nine different roads with the most recent trip marking number ten. The roads are being scored on a scale of 60 points for various metrics.
The metrics include Thrill Factor, Hospitality, Scenery, and Food and Drink. The roads covered so far include (the numbers are their score out of 60 possible points):
- Transfagarasan Highway, Romania 51
- North York Moors, England 54
- C462, Catalonia, Spain 56
- D526, 926, The Alps, France 55
- B500, The Black Forest, Germany 51
- MA10, Mallorca, Spain 53
- Atlantic Ocean Road, Norway 53
- Via Campocatino, Italy 53
- Mountain Road, Isle of Man 56
- N304, Portugal 57
The latest road driven, the N304 in Portugal, runs across the mountains of the country and has scored the highest so far. The diver of the Ford Focus ST, journalist Steve Sutcliffe, says that it may well be the best driving road in Europe. The road is twisty, scenic, and Sutcliffe says that in three days of filming on the road they had seen barely 20 cars on it.
He says that other roads in the area go north and south and that the twisty N304 isn’t everyone’s cup of tea. For those who like to drive, Sutcliffe says the N304 makes an “unforgettable route.” The road includes waterfalls and the Olo river nearby, and it has nice hotels that don’t cost a fortune. The video makes us miss the Ford Focus ST; the car sounds very good on the mountain road. The Ford Focus ST has plenty of turbo sounds and looks like a fun car for the road.
