One of the hottest Fox body Mustangs that Ford ever produced was the SVO line in the early to mid-’80s. The SVO cars were designed to outperform and out handle other Mustangs of the generation. To do so Ford and the SVO team gave up the 5.0-liter V8 engine that the Mustang GT used and went with a turbo four. The result was a car that had similar power with half the cylinders.
This 1984 Ford Mustang SVO is an early example of the car and made 175 horsepower and 210 pound-feet of torque. The 2.3-liter turbo four-cylinder ran 14 pounds of boost to reach that power number. Many basic four-cylinder engines make that much power today, but in its day, the 1984 Ford Mustang SVO was one of the most powerful cars out there making as much power as the 5.0-liter V8 under the hood of the GT.
Ford crammed the interior of the SVO Mustang with seats that had more aggressive bolsters and a 5-speed manual transmission with a Hurst shifter from the factory. Outside, the car had a unique front bumper and grille and a unique dual-element rear spoiler.
The 1984 Ford Mustang SVO in these images is a car that is for sale and has only 17,621 original miles on the odometer. The seller’s claim that the car was never titled in any state. How it racked up 17,000 miles without being titled, we don’t know. The outside of the car is gray, and the interior is the same color. Ford only made 1022 of these cars in 1984, according to the seller. The car still has its original MSO and has been stored indoors its entire life. The seller is asking $24,999. Some see the 2020 Ford Mustang EcoBoost Performance Pack as a modern SVO.

For a 35 year old car, it looks pretty damn good.
Hi! I built an 87 svo mustang convertible, all original parts! I, when reading this article was very impressed with the car. It looked in great shape. Purchasing a car that has sat for long periods of time, can be hard on the car, and can be expensive if you ever decide to make it road worthy again. But truly a gem for a collector!
